Hunter Predicts Big Legislative Fight Over Windstorm

IMG_1658State Rep. Todd Hunter, R-Corpus Christi, has told members of the Padre Island Business Association to expect “a big fight” in the next legislative session over windstorm, according to published reports in ourcitymagazine.com.

Hunter has been at the forefront of legislative action on windstorm for numerous years. He is currently the chair of the powerful House Calendars Committee.

On Sept. 1, 2015, the Texas legislature passed a coastal windstorm bill that Hunter says has caused some insurance companies to begin writing windstorm insurance in Texas. He said that, plus the ability of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association to cover damages from a 100-year hurricane, will eventually bring reduced insurance premiums. He said some people have already noticed a difference but warned that others won’t notice a difference for a year to a year and a half.
